About Me
Latin: Dea (‘goddess’) / Dia (‘day’) goddess of light & love / goddess of growth & new beginnings.
Hi, I’m Jessica Lawson, the mind, body & soul behind the brand. I am also wife to Matthew and mother to Astrid and Baby Lou.
Since you're here, I'm guessing you have often felt a little different from the others.
Call it being a rebel, an outcast, a renegade.
I just want to say, I see you, & I've felt that way my entire life.
Being on the outside was an important factor in asserting my independence and in beginning my career as a designer and entrepreneur. Creating Dea Dia was a way for me to go confidently into my dreams and also present you with the best jewels to express yourself and let your unique light shine.
When I started Dea Dia out of my Brooklyn apartment in 2011, I had a small idea that basically exploded and took me to some unexpected and far out places. I quit a boring dead-end job and was soon traveling across the country selling my jewels, partnering with boutiques and even opened my own store in Portland (RIP).
Through all the ups and downs, I pride myself on being a self taught artist with zero formal training in art, design or fabrication. In the course of a year and a half, I went from wannabe journalist to jewelry designer and turned my hobby into my full-time job.
I know I am one of the lucky ones but I also have worked tirelessly to get here. Making my own way in the world has been a transformative process and experiencing the small successes I had early on helped me reframe my story and has given me the freedom to wake up with passion to do something that I really love.
And you know what else I really love? Meeting my customers, whether it's face-to-face or online, because Dea Dia is really about you. I think of my customers as my Muses, my inspiration. Dea Dia jewelry lovers are an eclectic bunch of people: women, men & non-binary; young & mature; urban & from small towns; all races and countries of origins. This is why I like to say I make jewelry for humans because style knows no bounds.
And I believe jewelry can be about so much more than an accessory; rather it can be a tool of self-expression and confidence, a talisman to enhance your daily life.
Aside from jewels, I am an aficionado of classic & underground rock, fine art, architecture, travel and the beach. These loves influence my life and my life’s work. I am a Missouri native and have lived in Chicago, New York City, Berlin, Portland (Oregon), LA and now the High Desert or California where I own a small ranch surrounded by mountain views alongside my family.
As an indie designer I am so honored to forge my own path and to create jewelry for beautiful people like you. My loyal customers inspire me to no end and I am forever grateful that you have chosen to include Dea Dia on your journey.
